What to expect with pelvic floor physiotherapy?

Pelvic floor physiotherapy is not just making your pelvic floor muscles stronger but also your abdominal muscles, back muscles, diaphragm and hip muscles stronger. It also will look at your dietary habits and behavioural habits and retrain the body to allow it to work to its best form.

What Happens To Abdominal Muscles During Pregnancy – The Diastasis Recti?

More relaxin in pregnancy causes more relaxing of the muscles and they can separate during pregnancy. In approximately 30% of pregnant women the 2 rectus abdominis muscles can separate known as the diastasis rectus. A way to feel is to place 2 fingers above your tummy button and do an abdominal curl – if the 2 fingers can fit into a gap between the abdominal muscles it would be worth seeing a physiotherapist to have a check. AVOID doing abdominal crunches and exercises in a plank position if suspect you may have one as will make your condition worse.
